We consider that a field trip is about leaving the confines of the classroom to observe something on a firsthand basis and it should be carefully planned to ensure its effect as an educational tool, and to provide a great memory of school. We believe that field trips certainly can't replace classroom teaching, however they can certainly enhance classroom teaching in some circumstances.
As we know children do learn from experience, and getting out of the classroom and putting lessons to practical use is invaluable. With external learning children can see the world as enlightening for them, for example when the Reception children take a trip on a tram to learn about transport.
Traditionally Junior school children have taken overnight trips to Sinaia & Bran, where they enjoy some geography fieldwork, and investigate the amazing history of the area as well as the stunning beauty of the landscape. This year we hope for a group of children to travel to next year's European city of culture, Sibiu; where they will spend some of their week away some of their week away helping a charity organisation in some local schools. Last summer Year 6 joined Years 7-9 in June for a trip to Venice where they attended some Italian classes as well as other varied activities, including days on the beach that enhanced their holistic learning and perspective on other parts of the world.
