More information about teaching at The British School of Bucharest:
Our school is an independent school which was established in 2000, and we are very proud to be celebrating our tenth anniversary this year.
Currently we have 380 pupils ranging from creche to Year 13, representing 43 nationalities. Around 20% of our pupils are native English speaking.
We are recognised by the Romanian Ministry of Education to teach the British National Curriculum, and our teachers are all fully qualified native English speakers. At the moment we have around 40 expatriate teachers who are supported by around 35 Romanian teacher assistants; these TAs provide assistance in all primary classes up to Year 6, as well as EAL tuition when needed. We are also accredited members of COBIS and ECIS as well as belonging to CEESA.
There is an EAL programme for second language students to enable them to fully participate in class. Class sizes vary, however our maximum numbers are 20 students to a class.
Bucharest is an ever changing city that gained entry into the EU in January 2007. Currently it is considered one of the cheapest capitals in Europe and many of the teachers find it easy to enjoy a high standard of living and save money. As part of the benefits package the school provides a flight allowance equivalent to a return London / Bucharest ticket, and an accommodation allowance.
In addition we provide membership of a local health club, with indoor / outdoor pool, tennis courts and fully equipped gym. Alternatively there is the option of contributions to a mutual pension.
The school also provides an excellent quality of health insurance, and is responsible for organising all necessary work permits.
There is an eight point salary scale with various additional allowances for responsibility posts.
