Adult Romanian Language Classes

Throughout the year, BSB offers courses of Romanian language for adults, beginners and intermediate level. The courses are divided in three sections, following the structure of the school year, with breaks during Christmas and Easter time. Although they are aimed to help expat parents learn Romanian (the classes run during the school day) members of the community are also welcome to join.

Complete beginners Class begins:

Day: Monday 13th September 2010
Time: From 2:00 - 3:00pm
Course ends: 13th December 2010
Fee: 8 euros/hour

Complete beginners will have each lesson as a mixture of grammar, vocabulary, exercises, conversation and listening practice.

Conversational Romanian - Intermediate Class begins:

Day: Tuesday, 14th September 2010
Time: 2:00 - 3:00pm
Course ends: 14th December 2010
Fee: 8 euros/class

The lessons for intermediate level will focus on teaching everyday expressions to help deal with daily conversational situations, using language games and speaking/listening practice on topics like &ldquoout shopping”, “at the hotel”, “at home”, “at the restaurant”, etc.

Baby Massage

Course: Baby Massage
Starting Date: 26th May 2010
Finishing Date: 25th June 2010
Date & Time: Every Wednesday from 11:00am
Cost: 320 ron for 5 sessions
Location: Parent Room Pipera Site
Materials: A towel and the oil you normally use for your baby

Class size: Between 3 and 6 adults

The classes are open to all members of the community and not just those with children at BSB. This will be an ideal opportunity to meet other women and babies who live in Bucharest
The course will be instructed by Claudia Bider Heim, a Swiss midwife, who has been working in Bucharest for the last two years. She is a certified Infant Massage Instructor by the International Association of Infant Massage.
This association created by the American Vimala McClure exists in over 40 different countries and promotes healthy touch as a form of communication and respect for all babies in the world.

Adults English Classes

We are pleased to announce that adult English classes are again being offered at both Pipera and Gafencu in 2010/11. This year we hope to expand the programme to offer you more variety and the possibility of more classes each week.

Term 1: Monday September 13th - Friday December 4th, 2010, [11 weeks]
Term 2: Monday January 10th - Friday April 15th, 2011, [13 weeks]
Term 3: Monday May 2nd - Friday June 25th, 2011, [7 weeks]
Classes will run for either 60 minutes (10 €/lesson) or 90 minutes (15 €/lesson).

Levels:

Class levels available:

Elementary classes will focus on common words used in English and simple grammar to help you to start to understand and speak English quickly. Each lesson will help you to practice reading, listening, writing, and most importantly speaking in English. Lessons will cover topics and vocabulary used in everyday life, such as around home, when shopping, and when travelling.

Pre-intermediate classes will focus on improving both your grammar and building your vocabulary in a variety of everyday situations. This class will provide a balance of reading, speaking and listening, to improve your general language and conversational skills.

Intermediate classes will focus on reinforcing what you have already learnt in elementary and pre-intermediate and extending your knowledge of English grammar to become more fluent in every day situations, whilst building your vocabulary to allow you converse with more confidence in a wider variety of situations. The focus of this class will be reading, speaking and listening, to improve both your general language skills and conversational skills.

Upper-intermediate/pre-advanced classes will refresh your knowledge of English grammar and then focus on building vocabulary and using English to talk and write about a variety of topics, including current events. There will also be the option to start a book club, where the class read a book and discuss it together.

Advanced level classes will give you the chance to focus on fluency skills and if you choose to work toward taking the Cambridge Advanced Exam. Within these classes there will be the opportunity for students to choose areas or particular interest. There will also be a focus on idiomatic language and phrasal verbs.

Business English Classes will be offered for the first time this year and will focus on the language of business used in day to day business communication. There will be a specific focus on emailing correspondence, the language of meetings, the language of negotiation, the language of presentations, language related to marketing and management, as well as language related to business travel.

Onsite Business lessons are available on request. Special rates apply.
